 Aims of the English Curriculum

At Harris Peckham, we believe that a quality English Curriculum should be one that is knowledge-led, inspires ambition and provides meaningful contexts for speaking, writing and reading. In every year group, our English curriculum is underpinned by quality children’s literature.

We believe the exposure of children’s literature within the primary school setting is vital as a rich context for learning; not only within English as a subject but to support building a reading culture throughout the school.

Our Aims:

  1. Children acquire a secure knowledge of the English Language
  • Children develop oracy skills
  • Children learn to become life-long readers
  • Children can write clearly and coherently
