Drama is an integral part of our planning for literacy as we believe it helps children to engage in a text and gain greater insight into characters. Children at the Academy are involved in a weekly drama session taught by the performing arts company Artis. In addition to this the children have regular opportunities to engage in drama activities/performance e.g. twice yearly class assemblies, KS2 involvement in Shakespeare in schools project, visiting theatres and end of year performances (last year Matilda!).
Artis is a fantastic and different learning programme integrating the arts into our pupil’s education. Pupils from years 1-6 get to experience a session a week where they act, sing and dance what they are learning in class. Not only does this boost their achievement, it also improves their speaking and listening skills and aids in increasing their confidence and self-esteem.
